Legacy System Migration to the Cloud: How Tevpro Modernized a Decades-Old Banking Application case study image

Client Overview

A privately held, multi-generational real estate investment, development firm.

Challenge

When a high-end real estate company needed to replace its 20-year-old Microsoft Access-based private banking application, they needed a strategic partner who understood complex financial systems, accounting workflows, and the stakes of business-critical software.

Tevpro was selected to re-architect and modernize the company’s private banking platform into a secure, scalable, and cloud-ready web application built for the next generation.

The original application, developed in Microsoft Access, handled everything from internal accounting to private banking workflows. Over time, it became unstable, unsupported, and dangerously outdated.

Challenges of Legacy Software:

  • No access to the original developers
  • No design documentation available
  • Disjointed databases for Savings and Trust accounts
  • Manual reconciliation with duplicated data entry
  • Limited access for remote work or multi-user collaboration

And perhaps most critically: the application contained complex financial logic for interest calculations, period-end closings, and financial modeling, making a direct migration impossible.

Solution

Tevpro was brought in to re-platform and re-engineer the entire system from scratch and transform a fragile Access-based application into a robust, cloud-native, modern web app.

Reverse Engineering with a Purpose

With no technical documentation to start from, our development team reverse-engineered the system using a copy of the legacy database. From there, we:

  • Rewrote custom VB code into TypeScript
  • Re-architected Access tables into SQL Server
  • Rebuilt queries, forms, and reports with a modern tech stack

The New Tech Stack

To ensure long-term scalability and support, Tevpro built the app using:

  • TypeScript + Node.js
  • NestJS for backend architecture
  • Angular + Bootstrap for front-end UI
  • Prisma ORM for efficient database access
  • SQL Server as the core relational database

This modern stack supports cloud deployment, multi-device access, and agile updates.

Results

Tevpro delivered one unified system, built for the future. Previously, users had to enter transactions separately in multiple Micrsoft Access databases. Tevpro unified the system into a single source of truth, combining all data for Trust and Savings accounts under one roof.

Key Benefits:

  • Automated interest calculations with smart validation
  • Locked-down accounting periods post month-end close
  • Audit-friendly reporting and traceability
  • Real-time collaboration for accounting and finance teams
  • Significantly reduced human error and redundancy

By implementing cloud-based legacy software modernization, we gave the company more than just a new application—we gave them operational freedom.
